Q: What is a PayCard?
A: A PayCard is a debit card on which your pay or other funds are deposited or “loaded”. The card is either a PIN Debit Card that can be used where a PIN is accepted (practically all ATMs, and most large Retailers, Grocery Stores, Gas Stations, etc.), or a MasterCard, that can be used everywhere the MasterCard logo is displayed.
Q: How can my PayCard be used?
A: The Elan PayCard is like an electronic bank account, without the hassle or cost. You can get cash at virtually any ATM, or at major Retailers (Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target), and Grocery Stores through the “Cash-Back” feature. You can use the Elan PayCard to purchase goods or services at millions of Retailers, depending upon what type of PayCard you have (see question above). You can also use the Elan PayCard to transfer funds to any other Elan PayCard cardholder (including a relative in the US or Internationally).
Q: Can I transfer money to a relative internationally?
A: Yes, simply get two PayCard “Accounts” in your name, and send the second “Account” to your relative. The card sent to your relative must be a PIN-based card. Then you may either 1)have your pay split between the two cards (if you do payroll direct deposit and employer allows); 2) have money automatically deposited from a checking or savings account to the second card (by calling us toll-free); or 3) you can transfer funds from one card to the other by calling us toll-free or via PayCardConnect.com. The relative may then withdraw the funds at virtually any ATM, or use it to buy things where Maestro is accepted.
Q: How many PayCards can I have?
A: You may have up to three cards in your name.
Q: Do I need a bank account?
A: No bank account is required to obtain a Elan PayCard.
Q: I have a bank account, why do I want a PayCard?
A: Even if you have a bank account, a PayCard may be valuable. If you do not have your pay Direct Deposited into your account, the PayCard is more convenient and safer than being paid by check. If you have students in college or pre-college you help to support or provide an allowance, getting them a PayCard for their money is a safe, inexpensive, and convenient way to send them their money. If you regularly transfer money to a relative internationally, getting them a card and using it to transfer the money is far safer, more convenient, and less expensive than money transfer services. If you share a checking or share draft account with another in your household and occasionally pay overdraft fees because you both used your debit cards or wrote checks, using the PayCard instead provides the safety and record-keeping of the Checking or share draft account without the risk of overdraft. If you are looking for ways to budget your everyday expenses, maintain a separate account for “personal” purposes, or for other money management reasons, putting the money for them on the PayCard and the rest in your bank or credit union account is an inexpensive, safe way to manage your money.

For ATMs, the owner of the ATM controls how much cash can be taken at one time – usually $200-$500. For Cash-Back, the store owner determines how much Cash-Back they will allow. If you do lose or forget your PIN, or if someone not authorized by you has access to it, call PayCard Services immediately at 1-877-755-1474.
Q: Why do I need my Password?
A: Your password is the security that protects unauthorized access to your PayCard through the telephone and Internet. You need it to obtain information on your PayCard through either source.
Q: I left my Employer. Can I still use my PayCard?
A: All PayCards are transferable. Your new Employer does not need to be a Elan customer – all they need to do is offer Direct Deposit. To register your PayCard with your new Employer, all you would need to do is give your new Employer your Card Number and the Bank Transit Routing Number (ABA Number) seen on the upper right hand corner of your Elan PayCard.
Q: Do I get a Statement?
A: Yes, a Statement is generated for every PayCard. You can customize the Statement dates covered yourself. The Statement is available for viewing and printing over the Internet at PayCardConnect.com, or can be obtained via phone at a small cost.
